Motorcycle shipping to and from the Keys
Riding the Overseas Highway is a bucket-list trip, but sometimes the bike needs to get there without you. In-N-Out Keys is a veteran-owned, family-operated carrier and broker serving the entire Florida Keys, and we ship motorcycles to, from, and around the islands.
When it makes sense to ship a motorcycle
Plenty of riders still make the long ride south, but there are good reasons to put the bike on a trailer instead:
- Winter in the Keys. Snowbirds who spend the season in Key Largo, Islamorada, or Key West often want the bike down there without riding two or three days each way.
- Relocating. A permanent move usually means a truck, a car, and a bike all headed in different directions.
- New purchase. You bought a bike in another state and do not want to put the first 1,500 miles on it, or you cannot ride it home because of the title, weather, or condition.
- Non-running or project bikes. Bikes that cannot be ridden need a safe trailer ride.
- Events and rallies. Getting the bike to the Keys for a ride or event while you fly in saves time off work.
How we ship motorcycles
Motorcycles are transported upright, in a wheel chock or a dedicated tie-down system, using soft loops and ratchet straps that hold the bike without stressing the forks, handlebars, or bodywork. They ride on an open or enclosed trailer, depending on the trip and your preference. Larger touring and cruiser bikes, sport bikes, dual-sports, scooters, and trikes can all be accommodated, but tell us what you have so the right trailer is assigned.
An enclosed trailer protects the bike from weather and road grit and is a popular choice for high-value, custom, or vintage motorcycles. Open trailers are more widely available and often more economical. Our open versus enclosed comparison covers the tradeoffs, and the same logic applies to bikes.
Getting your bike ready
- Clean and photograph it. Take photos from every angle, including the tank, fairings, mirrors, and exhaust.
- Keep fuel low. A quarter tank or less is plenty.
- Check the battery and tires. The bike has to roll on and off the trailer safely.
- Secure loose parts. Remove or tie down soft bags, windshields, GPS units, and phone mounts.
- Disconnect alarms. Anti-theft alarms can drain the battery or go off in transit.
- Note quirks. Tricky side stands, kill switches, low-slung exhaust, and aftermarket modifications belong in the booking notes.
Please leave helmets, jackets, and gear out of the shipment unless the carrier has specifically agreed to carry them.
Pickup and delivery in the Keys
We deliver motorcycles to the entire Florida Keys, from the Upper Keys near Key Largo and Islamorada through Big Pine Key and down to Key West. A motorcycle needs far less room than a car hauler, but gated communities, condo garages, and narrow Old Town streets can still limit where the trailer can park. Share the exact address and any access instructions, and we will plan a safe loading spot with you.
Shipping other vehicles to the islands as well? We also move golf carts, cars on our main Keys routes, and boats.
Shipping a motorcycle together with a car
If you are moving a car and a bike, ask us about shipping both. A motorcycle tucked into an enclosed car trailer or a multi-vehicle load may be handled more efficiently than two separate bookings, depending on the route and the carrier. We cannot promise a combined load on every route, but it is worth asking when you request a quote. Moving your whole household? Our freight shipping page explains how we handle boxed and palletized goods.
Questions to ask any motorcycle shipper
- Is the bike loaded in a wheel chock or tie-down system designed for motorcycles?
- Will it ride in an open or enclosed trailer?
- What insurance does the carrier hold, and what does it cover?
- How will pickup and delivery be scheduled, and who is the contact?
- What is the process if there is damage? How is it documented on the bill of lading?
We are happy to answer these for our own jobs. Every carrier accepts COD, but not every carrier takes billed payments, so paying on delivery lets us line up the best carrier for your route.

Frequently asked questions
Can you ship a motorcycle to the Florida Keys?
Yes. We ship motorcycles, scooters, and trikes to and from the entire Florida Keys, door to door where the trailer can reach.
Do I need to drain the gas?
No. Keep fuel at about a quarter tank or less. Draining is not required.
Can you transport a non-running motorcycle?
Usually, yes. Tell us it does not run so that a winch and the right loading method are planned.
Open or enclosed for a motorcycle?
Both work. Enclosed adds protection from weather and road grit and is common for custom or high-value bikes. Open is typically more economical.
Can I ship my gear with the bike?
Generally the carrier limits what may be left on or with the bike. Ask before packing anything.
How is payment handled?
Every carrier accepts COD, but not every carrier takes billed payments, so paying on delivery lets us line up the best carrier for your route.
