New Jersey to Florida Keys Car Shipping

New Jersey to the Florida Keys

From the Garden State to the Overseas Highway is roughly 1,500 miles of interstate. In-N-Out Keys, a veteran-owned, family-operated interstate carrier and broker, arranges car shipping from New Jersey to the entire Florida Keys, with a direct Florida carrier handling the last stretch down the islands.

A popular route with a hard last mile

New Jersey is one of the most common starting points for cars headed to the Keys. Families relocating, retirees buying a second home, and seasonal residents all make the trip south, and many would rather fly and have the car meet them. The long haul down I-95 is the easy part. The tricky part is the final 100-plus miles, down the 18-Mile Stretch and across the bridges of US-1 to a street or driveway that a full-size car hauler may not be able to reach.

That is where being a direct carrier for all of Florida pays off. We handle the Florida delivery ourselves, with drivers who know the Keys, rather than leaving it to a mainland company that has never made the run.

Where we pick up in New Jersey

We arrange pickups anywhere in the state, including:

  • North Jersey — Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, Hackensack, Morristown, and the New York metro suburbs.
  • Central Jersey — New Brunswick, Edison, Princeton, Trenton, and the Route 1 corridor.
  • The Shore — Toms River, Asbury Park, Ocean City, and other coastal towns.
  • South Jersey — Cherry Hill, Camden, Atlantic City, and the Philadelphia suburbs.

Big carriers prefer to load near major highways, so we sometimes suggest meeting at a nearby parking lot if your street is tight. That is easy to arrange and often speeds up the pickup.

What the trip looks like

Most New Jersey to Keys moves are done in two stages. A long-haul carrier brings the vehicle down the East Coast to South Florida, and the final leg to the island is arranged to fit the street and the vehicle. Because of this, delivery is typically a matter of days to a week or so once the car is on the truck, and we will give you a realistic window for your job rather than a guarantee. Weather, holidays, and the season can all move the schedule around. Snowbird season (fall south, spring north) is the busiest time of year, so booking early gives you more options.

Open or enclosed from New Jersey

Open carriers are the standard way to ship a car from New Jersey, and they are the right choice for most daily drivers. If you are moving a classic, a luxury or exotic car, or something with a rare finish, enclosed transport protects it from winter road salt, rain, and debris on the long drive. Read our open versus enclosed guide or our exotic and classic page to decide.

How to get ready

  1. Request a quote on our quote page with your ZIP, the Keys address, and your preferred ship date.
  2. Wash and photograph the car. Document its condition from every side.
  3. Leave about a quarter tank of fuel.
  4. Remove personal items and E-ZPass tags.
  5. Arrange the handoff. Someone needs to meet the driver with the keys at pickup and again in the Keys at delivery.
  6. Keep your phone on. The driver or dispatcher will call before arrival.

Paying and what it depends on

Every carrier accepts COD, but not every carrier takes billed payments, so paying on delivery lets us line up the best carrier for your route. For what drives the final price, see our cost guide. Distance, season, vehicle size, open or enclosed, and how tightly the schedule is set all matter, and we do not guess at numbers before we know the details.

Exploring other starting points? Our out-of-state page covers the whole country, and we have pages for Pennsylvania and New England. For local notes on the other end, see Key Largo, Islamorada, and Key West.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to ship a car from New Jersey to the Florida Keys?

It depends on the vehicle, season, distance, and whether you choose open or enclosed. See our cost guide for the main factors, or request a quote for your exact route.

How long does it take to ship a car from NJ to the Keys?

Typically several days to about a week or so from pickup, though weather and season can change that. We will give you a realistic window with your quote.

Can the driver deliver right to my door in the Keys?

Usually, yes. Where a street is too narrow or gated, we agree on a nearby safe meeting point in advance.

Should I ship open or enclosed from New Jersey?

Open works well for most cars. Enclosed is worth considering for valuable cars, or to avoid winter road salt and weather.

Do I have to be there at pickup?

You or someone you trust must hand off the keys and sign the bill of lading at pickup and delivery.

How is payment handled?

Every carrier accepts COD, but not every carrier takes billed payments, so paying on delivery lets us line up the best carrier for your route.
